This is a very typical graphic design work at undergraduate level at the Ecole
Boulle.
The teacher plays the customer and give quite abstract guidelines : here,
we are supposed to do the graphics for the poster of an exhibition at the BNF
(French National Librairy).
The exhibition is about the evolution of written forms, from stone to paper.
We imagine the posters will mostly be on Paris walls and many of them also inside
the immense librairy, so it must be appealing but not irritating nor too much
creative for a clearly quiet aged targeted audience.
First step : immersion in the subject, we get to
know the client subject, pick colors, materials, objects
Second step : quickly imagine different combinations, roughs
Third step : we select a few selection that we are supposed to show to the
client, still in a research momentum
Fourth : after agreement with the client, we execute the preferred version
Those basic steps are very industry oriented and here presented very separated.
The outcome is not so exting, but the though and graphic PROCESS
was very interesting blending creativy and systematic thinking.
That"s arts applied.
